- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
- For the Stir-Fry:
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef:
Combine soy sauce, cornstarch, Shaoxing wine, and sesame oil in a bowl. Add beef slices and mix well. Marinate for at least 20 minutes. - Prepare the Sauce:
Whisk soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, and water (or beef broth) in a small bowl. Set aside. - Cook the Beef:
Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok over high heat. Add marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside. - Stir-Fry the Onions:
Add 1 tbsp vegetable oil to the wok. Stir-fry onions, garlic, and ginger for 3-4 minutes until tender and slightly caramelized. - Combine and Finish:
Return beef to the wok. Pour in the prepared sauce. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until beef is cooked through and coated in the sauce. - Serve:
Garnish with green onions and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Freeze beef for 15 minutes before slicing for easier handling and thin, even pieces.
- Stir-fry in small batches to maintain high heat and prevent overcrowding.
- Add chili flakes or fresh chilies for extra spice.
