Description

These Apple Cider Donuts are soft, fluffy, and packed with warm cinnamon spice and tangy apple cider flavor. Baked to perfection and coated in cinnamon sugar or drizzled with a sweet apple cider glaze, they are the perfect fall treat for breakfast, snack time, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup apple cider (reduced for concentrated flavor)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Apple Cider Glaze (Optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Reduce the Apple Cider:

    • In a medium saucepan, simmer apple cider over medium heat for about 5 minutes, or until reduced to ½ cup.
    • Let it cool slightly before adding to the batter.
  • Make the Donut Batter:

    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a donut pan.
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
    • In another bowl, whisk eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and reduced apple cider until smooth.
    • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined (do not overmix).
  • Bake the Donuts:

    • Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.
    • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Coat the Donuts in Cinnamon Sugar:

    • In a shallow bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
    • Once the donuts have cooled slightly, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  • Optional: Make the Apple Cider Glaze:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, apple cider, and cinnamon until smooth.
    • Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, letting any excess drip off before serving.

Notes

  • Reducing the apple cider enhances the flavor, making the donuts rich and fragrant.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and fluffy.
  • Double-coat in cinnamon sugar for an extra crispy and flavorful coating.
